St. Elmo’s Week: Bourbon, Steak, And Basketball – A Perfect Trio

If you’re from Indy—or just passing through—you’ve probably heard of St. Elmo’s. The legendary steakhouse has built a reputation not just for its steaks and that infamous shrimp cocktail, but also for something bourbon lovers like myself appreciate: their barrel picks. Long before liquor stores and bars were making barrel selections a big thing, St. Elmo’s was ahead of the game, working with distilleries like Brown-Forman to hand-pick some fantastic whiskey for their restaurants. Over time, they’ve taken that expertise and turned it into something bigger—Rare Saint Whiskey. They’re no longer just picking barrels for their restaurants; they’re building a full-on brand, curating some seriously good bottles. And while they don’t distill it themselves, they’ve proven they know how to pick quality whiskey that fits their style.

This week, I’m kicking off what I’m calling St. Elmo’s Week, leading up to their annual Beefsteak Event—a celebration of steak, bourbon, and, of course, the NCAA tournament. I’ll be diving into Rare Saint Whiskey, reviewing what they have to offer, and sharing my thoughts on how this brand could be a great entry point for new bourbon drinkers. If you’re grabbing a steak at any of their locations—whether it’s St. Elmo’s, Harry and Izzy’s, HC Tavern, or 1933 Lounge—trying their whiskey lineup might just be the thing that pulls you deeper into the bourbon world. I’ll be at HC Tavern this Thursday, March 20, covering the event, enjoying some great food, and, most importantly, getting a better feel for what Rare Saint is bringing to the table. Looking forward to sharing my thoughts throughout the week—stay tuned!
